4/23/2013 1 Comment Ross's Spring "Vacation"Last week Ross was on vacation (he works at IBM as a computer engineer). Instead of going to the beach or mountains, like a normal human being, Ross took the week to catch up on work around the farm. I was able to take a couple of days off work too. Our week started by planting some transplants out into the field. The weather has really set us back and we're behind on our planting. It's quite possible that many of our spring crops won't be successful but we're certainly going to try! After planting the transplants, we finished setting up irrigation. Ross started Tuesday by planting potatoes. Tuesday was also our first market at the Chapel Hill Farmers' Market. We'll be selling at the CHFM every Tuesday from 3-6pm. Thanks to everyone who came out! The rest of the week was a blur of planting and chores. We planted our first round of tomatoes, peppers and squash. Sunday morning we worked on laying hay in between our rows for weed control. Some friends came out Sunday afternoon and helped build a low tunnel over the squash (for pest protection). They also helped plant sunflowers and zinnias. We got a lot done during our "vacation" but there is always more to do on the farm. Until next time.
